How To Dry Brush And Move Your Lymph At Home
The lymphatic system carries a watery fluid called lymph to your lymph nodes, where it filters out toxins and fights infections. Unlike our circulatory system, the lymphatic system does not have a pump (like the heart) to move the fluid. When this fluid becomes stagnant, imbalances may arise including weight gain and weakened immunity. So giving it some assistance is necessary.
How can we help this system:
-Dry brushing
-Exercise
-Hydration
-Rebounding
-Lymphatic Drainage Massage
-Deep breathing
Dry brushing is a powerful Ayurvedic practice that unclogs pores by exfoliation, helps skin detoxify by increasing blood circulation, promotes lymph drainage, and makes it easier for the body to sweat out impurities. The increased circulation from brushing contributes to glowing skin, bringing blood and nutrients to the surface of the skin. Studies have shown a decrease in the appearance of cellulite and reduction in body measurements with consistent use.
How to dry brush:
-Using a natural bristled brush, start by activating the largest lymph nodes with 10 strokes first to wake them up. Referred to as The Big Six by @stopchasingpain:
- Collarbone (Below and above)
- Side of the neck at C1/C2
- Pectoral/Axillary (Shoulder joint)
- Abdomen
- Inguinal (Groin crease)
- Popliteal (Behind knees )
-Next work your way from distal (the furthest spots on your body- feet and hands) to medial (the middle and towards the heart) in long, fluid strokes on limbs. A few passes per area is sufficient.
-On your torso and back, move the brush in a circular motion. Lighten the pressure as needed over delicate areas. Avoid any irritated or compromised skin.
-It is recommended to dry brush once a day and shower immediately afterward. It should not be painful.
